Glossary

Definitions of the main agricultural indicators and calculations used across Terra Cultiva.

Production

The quantity produced for an agricultural product and year, using the unit supplied by FAOSTAT.

Yield

Production relative to the area or reference unit used by FAOSTAT. For crops this is often expressed in kg/ha.

Harvested area

The area actually harvested for a crop during the reference year.

Stocks

The number of animals or livestock units reported for an animal category.

World share

A country’s share of the sum of available national values for the product, metric and ranking year.

World rank

A country’s position in a ranking built using a common reference year with sufficient coverage.

10-year CAGR

Compound annual growth rate between the starting and latest value when a usable interval exists.

Historical record

The maximum value observed in the available country, product and metric series.

Volatility

A statistical measure of the dispersion of annual changes, useful for distinguishing stable and highly variable series.
